Apostille in Laval: the only apostille office actually in Laval

There is no government apostille counter in Laval. The Ministère de la Justice issues Québec apostilles from downtown Montréal, by mail. What Laval does have is us: Viapostille is based in the east of the island, in the Saint-François sector. Bring your documents to the office, or we come to you, and they are filed in Montréal the same day, in person, with the receipt in your inbox before dinner.

Two ways to hand us your documents without a stamp or an envelope

Drop-off at the office. Book a 15-minute slot, bring the originals, we check them in front of you and give you a signed receipt listing every document. Or we collect. Anywhere in Laval, usually the same day if you reach us in the morning. Either way, your file leaves for Montréal that day, by hand, not by post.

Why it matters

Being in Laval removes the slowest part of a Québec file

A Québec apostille request has three legs: your documents reaching whoever files them, the office processing them, and the apostilled originals coming back. The processing leg belongs to the Ministère and cannot be bought faster. The other two are where days disappear, and where a Laval address changes the math.

From our office, the Délivrance des apostilles on rue Saint-Jacques is a 30-minute drive. We file by hand, which means no envelope sitting in a sorting plant, no "processing applications received on" date that starts a week after you mailed it, and a human who can flag an urgent deadline at the counter. When the certificate is ready, we pick it up, scan it, and either hand it back to you in Laval or ship it, tracked, anywhere in the world.

For a notarized document, the same geography applies twice. Before the Ministère will apostille a notarial act, the Chambre des notaires must certify the notary's signature. That office is in Montréal too. We walk the document from one to the other, and when a deadline is real we request the Chambre's urgent service, which turns around in about 72 hours instead of several weeks.

Laval clients often come to us after a refusal: the small-format certificate instead of the long-form copie d'acte, a laminated diploma, a commissioner of oaths where a notary was required. We check all of that at the office, in front of you, before anything is paid.
What to bring

A drop-off takes 15 minutes if you bring these

The original, untouched

Never laminated, never unstapled, never folded if you can help it. For a civil-status record, the long-form copie d'acte from the Directeur de l'état civil, not the wallet-size certificate. If you only have the small one, we can order the right version for you.

The destination country

It goes on the request form and decides whether an apostille is enough or whether an embassy step follows. If the document will be used in Spain, Italy, France, Morocco, Brazil, Mexico or any of the 130 Convention countries, the apostille is the last step. See the country pages.

Your return address, or your pickup preference

Apostilled originals can be collected at the office in Laval, delivered in Greater Montréal, or shipped tracked anywhere. Tell us which, and when you need them by. We give you a written all-in price before anything moves.

Timelines from Laval

What "same day" and "about a week" actually mean here

Long-form birth, marriage or death record (Directeur de l'état civil)

Route: Filed at the Ministère the same day

Typical time: Published figure: about 10 business days at the office, plus mail. Our recent Laval files, filed by hand: often faster, and urgent files have come back within days.

Diploma or transcript from a Québec public university or cégep

Route: Filed at the Ministère the same day, no notary

Typical time: Same as a copie d’acte: about 10 business days published, often less filed by hand.

Power of attorney, affidavit, consent letter, certified copy

Route: Notary, then Chambre des notaires, then Ministère

Typical time: Add about 72 hours with the Chambre's urgent service, or several weeks on the regular track. Partner notaries in Laval and Montréal, in person or by video.

RCMP check, federal corporate document, out-of-province record

Route: Not a Québec document: Global Affairs Canada or that province's office

Typical time: We file it from Laval too, but the queue is Ottawa's (about 25 business days) or the province's. Documents from different authorities travel separately.

Government processing times are set by the authorities, change without notice, and are confirmed at pre-check for every file. The figure above is Ministère de la Justice du Québec, Délivrance des apostilles (Montréal)'s own, checked September 16, 2026.

Where Laval documents travel

Common Laval files

Family records for Europe

Birth and marriage records for Italian, Portuguese or French citizenship, Spanish residency, or a wedding abroad. Long-form records only, sometimes several generations, sometimes from more than one province. Each goes to its own authority; we run them in parallel.

Diplomas for work abroad

Université de Montréal, UQAM, Concordia, McGill, Polytechnique, HEC, Collège Montmorency and the Laval cégeps. Public institutions go straight to the Ministère. Private ones, and foreign diplomas held here, usually travel as notarized copies.

Powers of attorney for property abroad

Signed before a notary here, certified by the Chambre, apostilled, then often translated. For Morocco, Lebanon, the Gulf states and other non-Convention destinations, an embassy legalization in Ottawa follows. We handle the whole chain and quote it upfront.

Laval and around

Where we come to you

All of Laval: Chomedey, Sainte-Dorothée, Laval-Ouest, Fabreville, Sainte-Rose, Vimont, Auteuil, Duvernay, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, Pont-Viau, Laval-des-Rapides and Saint-François, where the office is. The North Shore as well: Terrebonne, Mascouche, Boisbriand, Sainte-Thérèse, Blainville, Rosemère, Bois-des-Filion and Saint-Eustache. Same price, same timeline.

Not nearby? It changes nothing. The authority is decided by where the document was issued, never by where you live. Half of our Québec files arrive by courier from Toronto, Vancouver, Spain or Dubai, and they are filed the same way.

Common questions
Is there an apostille office in Laval?
No government office. Québec apostilles are issued by the Ministère de la Justice from downtown Montréal, and it accepts requests by mail or courier only. Viapostille is the private service based in Laval: you drop off at our office or we collect, and we file in Montréal by hand the same day.
Can I just walk in?
Please book first. We are a small team and often at the Montréal offices during the day. A 15-minute slot, including evenings and weekends, guarantees someone is there to check your documents and sign your receipt. Booking takes a minute online, or call us.
How much does an apostille cost in Laval?
The Québec government fee is $66.50 per document, billed at cost with the receipt. Our service fee is $139 per submission, whatever the number of documents going to the same authority. A notarized document costs $229 because it passes through the Chambre des notaires first (their certificate, $77.03 regular or $206.96 urgent, is added at cost), plus the notary's own fee. Collection in Laval and return of the originals in Greater Montréal are included. The full price list is public.
How fast can it be done?
We file the day we receive your documents. The Ministère's published processing time is about 10 business days at the office, plus mail; filed by hand, our files are often back sooner, and genuinely urgent ones have returned within days. For a notarized document, the Chambre's urgent service adds about 72 hours. Tell us your deadline at pre-check and we will say honestly whether it is realistic.
My birth certificate is the small plastic card. Will it work?
No. The Ministère apostilles the long-form copie d'acte only. We can order the right version from the Directeur de l'état civil on your behalf, then apostille it as soon as it arrives.
I live in Laval but my document is from Ontario, or it is an RCMP check.
Then it is not a Québec document and the Ministère cannot touch it. Ontario documents go to Official Documents Services in Toronto, RCMP checks and most other provinces' documents go to Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa. We file those from Laval too, by courier or through our partner agent in Toronto, each on its own timeline.
Do you also handle the translation?
Yes. Certified translation into Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic and other languages is coordinated before or after the apostille, whichever the receiving country requires. For Spain we offer a sworn translation by a MAEC-appointed translator.
