Apostille in Canada, sworn Spanish translation for Spain, one file

Spanish registries, consulates and courts accept a foreign document in Spanish when it carries a traducción jurada, signed and sealed by a translator appointed by Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We apostille your Canadian document, have it translated by a sworn translator in Spain, apostille included, and send you a file that Spain reads without asking twice. $60 per page.

Why it is done this way

Apostille first, translation second, both in one sworn translation

A translator Spain recognizes

A traductor-intérprete jurado is appointed by Spain’s Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores. Their signed and sealed translation is official in Spain as it stands, with no further legalization. A Canadian certified translation, however good, is not the same thing in a Spanish registry.

The apostille gets translated too

Canadian apostilles are in French or English. Many Spanish offices want the apostille itself in Spanish, so the translation is done after the apostille and covers both. Doing it in the other order is how people end up paying for a second translation.

Paper or electronic

The sworn translator issues a stamped paper translation, or an electronically signed one where the receiving office accepts it. We ask which one your Spanish office wants before ordering, and courier the paper version with your original if needed.

What it covers

What we translate for Spain, and where it is not the right product

Accepted across Spain

  • Birth, marriage, divorce and death records, for the Registro Civil and consulates
  • RCMP criminal record checks and medical certificates, for visas and residency
  • Degrees and transcripts, for homologation and employment
  • Powers of attorney and declarations, for notaries, banks and property in Spain
  • Court judgments, for recognition or inheritance proceedings

Not the right product

  • Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and most of Latin America: each wants its own accredited translator (perito traductor, traductor oficial, traductor público). We quote that per country.
  • Documents to be used in Canada: Canadian offices want a Canadian certified translator instead.
  • Handwritten or very old records with uncertain readings: quoted after the translator has seen them.
Spanish citizenship for grandchildren (Ley de Memoria Democrática) closed to new applications on October 22, 2025. Files submitted before then are still being processed, and consulates still ask for documents on them. We handle those requests, with the translation, under the same bundle.
Common questions
What is a sworn translation (traducción jurada) for Spain?
A translation signed and sealed by a translator-interpreter appointed by Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Spanish public bodies accept it as official without further legalization.
How much does a sworn Spanish translation cost with Viapostille?
$60 per page. A typical Québec copy of act with its apostille is two pages, so $120. It is quoted in your written total before anything starts.
Should the translation be done before or after the apostille?
For Spain, after. The apostille is then translated together with the document in one sworn translation, which is what most Spanish offices want.
Is a sworn translation for Spain valid in Mexico or Colombia?
Generally not. Latin American countries require translators accredited in their own system. We quote that translation separately, per destination.
How long does the translation take?
Usually two to four business days after the apostilled scan is ready, longer for long or handwritten documents. It runs in parallel with shipping preparation, so it rarely adds to the total delay.
